Alex Rodriguez (aka ARod) is a professional athlete, business man, and inspirational speaker who works with Fortune 500 companies on teambuilding exercises.
He was born in New York City on the 27th of July 1975. His parents, Victor and Lourdes Rodriguez, fled the Dominican Republic in the 1960s and settled in the United States. Susy and Cynthia are Rodriguez’s younger sisters. Rodriguez’s father trained him in baseball till he was nine years old as he grew up.
Rodriguez attended Christopher Columbus High School in the Bronx, where he started his high school career. This led to his enrolling at Westminster Christian School in Miami. Rodriguez excelled academically and athletically at Westminster, where he was named valedictorian of his graduating class in 1993.
During the 1993 Major League Baseball draft, the Seattle Mariners selected Rodriguez in the first round, making him a first-round draft pick. As a rookie in 1994, he rapidly established himself as one of baseball’s most promising young players. His rookie season in 1995 earned him a spot in two World Series appearances for the Seattle Mariners.
During the 1998 season, Rodriguez smashed 42 home runs and had 123 RBI. Because of his outstanding performance, the Mariners made their second straight postseason berth and he was voted the AL MVP.
When he joined the Texas Rangers in 2000, Rodriguez agreed to a 10-year, $252 million deal. For the second straight year, he hit.318 with 41 home runs and more than 130 RBI for the Rangers. In 2000, the Rangers made it to the playoffs, however they were eliminated in the first round by the Los Angeles Lakers.
Rodriguez hit.318 with 52 home runs and 135 RBI’s in 2001, another season worthy of the MVP award. Once again, the Rangers made it to the playoffs, but were beaten in the first round by the Penguins.
In 2002, Rodriguez hit.300 with 57 home runs and 142 RBI for the Yankees. The Rangers made it to the playoffs for the third year in a row thanks to his leadership. Even yet, the Rangers were beaten in the first round once again.
During the 2003 season, Rodriguez hit.298 with 47 home runs and 118 RBIs. Despite making the playoffs for the fourth year in a row, the Rangers lost in the first round to their division rivals.
The New York Yankees acquired Rodriguez in a trade in 2004. He hit.286 with 36 home runs and 106 RBIs with the Yankees in his second season. Though they reached the postseason, the Yankees fell to the Boston Red Sox in the first round.
Rodriguez had another MVP-caliber season in 2005, batting.321 with 48 home runs and 130 RBI. Though they reached the postseason, the Yankees fell to the Boston Red Sox in the first round.
Rodriguez continued his stellar play in 2006, slugging.290 with 35 home runs and 121 runs batted in. Though they reached the postseason, the Yankees fell to the Boston Red Sox in the first round.
When Rodriguez hit.314 in 2007 with 54 homers and 156 RBI, he had another MVP-caliber season. Though they reached the postseason, the Yankees fell to the Boston Red Sox in the first round.

With 29 home runs and 103 runs batted in, Rodriguez had a good year in 2010. Though they reached the postseason, the Yankees fell to the Boston Red Sox in the first round.
